This is the last part of the vow renewal series (See part 1 and part 2 here) for Matt and Mecah from our Flagstaff vow renewal shoot, in Lockett Meadow. After the sun goes down in the mountains of Arizona, it gets chilly (probably everywhere else too, but in Arizona we never expect it bc we’re so used to being sweltering). And this was November, so it was an extra brisk night. We started up a fire, cracked open the marshmallows, heated up some water for hot cocoa, and warmed up all our fingers and toeses.
I promise you there is nothing like hot chocolate and s’mores after a photoshoot in the mountains. After-session bonfires are kind of my thing, so don’t be surprised if I suggest one. I love the smell of the fresh wood and the warmth on your face. Nothing better than a good ol’ fire to end your elopement or engagement session.
APPARENTLY, Matt and Mecah like to totally destroy a perfectly good ‘mallow by charring the hell out of the poor things. Just kidding, you guys can like s’mores how you want… But really, golden brown is the way to go, always. Fight me.
Mecah made up for their charred marshmallows by making me the most perfect golden brown marshmallow I have ever seen, so they are thoroughly forgiven.
These are the moments I love most about sessions in the mountains. Taking advantage of the fresh air and starry sky, enjoying each other’s company with good music and the whisper of wind through the aspens.
We set up a string of lights and Matt and Mecah danced to their First Dance song, from their wedding the year before. THEY DID NOT KNOW THIS WAS PART OF THE PLAN. We surprised them at the end of their vow renewal. Rebecca (from Cam and Beck Videos) had filmed their wedding, and knew that Perfect, by Ed Sheeren, had been their song. So we strung up the lights (which by some miracle worked), and Matt and Mecah ended the night with a spontaneous starlit dance, huddled in the blanket.
