This Kauai elopement was actually pretty serendipitous. I wasn’t hired or planning to be there… but our paths crossed at the exact right moment.
This May, I was in Kauai for photography related work, shooting a weeklong retreat. I decided to stay an extra week to enjoy the sunlight and Hawaiian views, so I camped out on the beach during my second week there.
The Kauai campsite was pretty awesome. Kumu Camp lays nestled among palm trees right on the beach. Complete with bathrooms, showers and a variety of yurts, campgrounds, and mini-huts. I stayed in my tent while I was there, and biked the island.
On one afternoon, I was enjoying lunch on the Anahola Beach, and noticed three people standing on the beach. I realized two of the people were a boy and a girl, other campers I had met at Kumu Camp. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the third was an officiant, who was marrying them!
Since this is literally what I was doing for a living, I low-key freaked out. After waiting until they were done with the ceremony, I approached them. Explaining what I do, I asked if they’d like sunrise portraits the next day.
Anahola Beach, Kauai
I honestly believe whatever universal force is out there put me in their path that day. The fact I was in Kauai, and on the beach at the exact right moment to give them photos they will cherish forever means the world to me.
Audrey and Aidan decided to elope on their trip to Kauai because Aidan is in the Air Force. They said their parents were pretty bummed that they got married without them, but they were supportive.
This is the kind of thing I live for. Elopements hold so much more meaning than traditional weddings. You could really feel how much they loved each other on this Kauai beach, and you know they are going to treasure these images with their children forever.
Although I’m based out of Arizona, I am ALWAYS willing to travel. So YES, if you’re curious about having me photograph your Hawaiian elopement, whether it’s Kauai, Oahu, or any of the islands, reach out to me and we can start planning. It truly is a magical place.
